

Catherine Inez Davis, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 23, 2011, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS after a short illness. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Wright-Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the homegoing service to be held immediately thereafter, followed by interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Davis was born on September 1, 1923 in Hickory, Mississippi to Lee and Betty McMullan. She was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, and her husband, Lawrence E. Davis, Sr. Mrs. Davis is survived by her children Betty (Rev. Wilson) Smith, Cathy (Sam) Fletcher, Lawrence Jr. (Monica) and Jeanne (Bob) Walters. She had nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Professionally, Mrs. Davis served in a number of positions, most recently as executive director of the Mississippi Hotel and Motel Association. She embodied an entrepreneurial vigor and owned and managed a significant portfolio of rental properties. One of her greatest joys in this endeavor was providing housing for young students at local colleges. She loved playing competitive bridge and played in tournaments locally and nationally.
Mrs. Davis served her Lord and Savior faithfully for many years, teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She was unafraid of sacrifice and served her family faithfully. She knew how to love, and always offered encouragement and hope even in the most difficult of circumstances.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Christ Methodist Church,(6000 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211) or Madison United Methodist Church, (100 Post Oak Road, Madison, MS 39110).
