She is survived by her loving family: daughter Debby Hughes; son Steve Beard and daughter-in-law Traci; four grandchildren, Amanda Birdwell (Bret), Colleen Cook (Victor), Stephen Beard Jr., and Valerie Beard; and six great-grandchildren, Elaina and Victor Cook, Peyton Birdwell, Cole Butler, Kayden and Skylar Beard; and other family members including many nieces and nephews who knew her as "Aunt Jackie." Jackie also leaves behind two stepdaughters, Frankie Grogan and Paula Grogan-Newlands.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Gerald Dale Beard, and more recently by her second husband, Dr. Jack Grogan.
Jackie was an active member of First Baptist Church of Raymond and loved her Lord Jesus Christ, her church family, and Sunday School class dearly.
She was a dedicated mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren, and her family was so important and dear to her heart. She thrived on family gatherings and spending as much time as possible with all of them. She loved traveling and was always ready for her next adventure.
She retired from Mississippi Baptist Medical Center as a radiology technician and department manager. She would often talk about all her memories that she cherished in a career that she absolutely thrived in and loved.
She was part of the Ragger Roos Comedy Washtub Band for many years and the group mostly performed at churches, senior citizen events, and community events. It was laughter at first sight. The band's crew dressed in pigtails, patched overalls and the sort of dresses and floral straw hats you remember from "Hee Haw," back in the day. Beating beneath those faded denim bibs were hearts of gold and giving. Their instruments included electric keyboard, drums, guitars and banjos, an autoharp, scrub boards, tambourines, wooden spoons, and sandpaper clackers along with tons of jokes and humor.
All retired (from careers in education, finance, nursing, and more), these women pooled their talents, tunes and more to cheer folks up. Their ministry was a mix of hillbilly hilarity, reworked songs, country and gospel tunes, and grannies having so much fun. Their ages ranged from late 50s all the way up to the 80s, but some ages, including Jackie's, were never revealed.
Jackie loved life and lived her life to the fullest. She was truly blessed. One of her most favorite things in life was hosting social events and spending time with her friends. Recently, she began hosting tea parties at Riggs Manor. She loved serving others. She was dearly loved, will be missed by many, and memories of her will be carried in their hearts forever.
Her motto in life was: "If you are going to love someone, love them now, don't wait to have it chiseled on their headstone. Let them hear it while they are still living so they enjoy it."
