James Howard Jenkins Jr.

Howard was born in Complete, MS on May 23, 1926. He was the only child of Helen Harbour and James Howard Jenkins, Sr. He graduated from Central High School in 1944.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. When returning from the service, he started Millsaps College on the GI Bill. At this time, he began attending Capitol Street Methodist Church, which is where he met his wife, Marianne Chunn. They married in 1949. In 1954, he began his career with State Farm Insurance, which lasted 35 years. He retired in 1989.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kristen Jill Jenkins. Howard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marianne Chunn Jenkins; daughters, Jan Jenkins Michaels (Keith), Jennifer Jenkins Segrest (David), and Judi Jenkins Segrest (Scott). He is also survived by grandchildren, Steven Michaels (Koral), Nathan Michaels (Leigh Ann), Rebecca Michaels Nimmo (Adam), Chad Segrest (Mary Katherine), Andy Segrest (Anna), Gretchen Segrest Shull (Jonathan), Rachael Segrest Cox (Fletcher), Hailey Segrest O’Brien (Tim), Spencer Segrest (Leigh); and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by Marianne’s siblings, Patricia McCormick (Jim), Don Chunn (Frances) and Bob Chunn (Jeannie).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Jill Jenkins Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o French Camp Academy, 1 Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 17th at 2:00 pm at Parkway Hills United Methodist Church in Madison, with a visitation held prior from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
