
“Jim” was born in Shuqualak, Miss. on December 23, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Ollie Kennedy Mangum, and loving wife of 43 years Mary Kay Denham Mangum. He is survived by: his children - Debbie Ratcliff, Hardy Mangum (Tracy), Lianne Brashier (John): six grandchildren - Anjuli Janos, Tate Ratcliff, Courtney McCrory (Jacob), Grant Brashier, Elliot Brashier, Kelly Mangum; and 2 great-grandchildren - Alex and MaKayli Janos; also, numerous other family members of brothers, sisters, “in-laws”, nieces, nephews, friends and life-long friends of the Magee State Champion Football Team of 1951.
Jim graduated from Magee High School and Mississippi College. He served during the Korean Conflict. He was a long-time educator and coach. He started his career in Clarksdale, Miss. and then moved to Jackson Public Schools. He coached and taught at Chastain Jr. High and Callaway High School before becoming an administrator at Powell Jr. High, Murrah and Lanier High Schools. After retiring from JPS, he returned to the classroom and football field at Jackson Academy for several years.
Jim was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. He was an amazing craftsman, creating beautiful carvings and furniture as a hobby.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Monday, March 28, at Broadmoor Baptist Church and one hour before the service on Tuesday. His Celebration of Life service will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church at 11:00am on Tuesday, March 29.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Mind Center of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, or your favorite children/youth charitable organization.
