Mrs. Martin was born on August 2, 1935 in Jackson, Mississippi, to Eric Earl Garner and Emma Viola Cade Garner. She graduated high school in Columbia, South Carolina. Afterward, she attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree. On August 7, 1965, Jodie married Robert B. Martin, and they shared 58 years together before her passing. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Jackson Public Schools and Woodland Hills Baptist Academy. She was a member of Olde Towne Community Church of Ridgeland, Mississippi.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Chuck House of Bentonville, Arkansas.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Martin of Jackson; sons, Sam Martin (Ginger) of Olive Branch and Stan Martin (Byars) of Ridgeland; daughters, LuAnne McCombs of Madison and Elizabeth Martin of Atlanta, Georgia; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a niece, Cindy Daniels (Mike) of Bentonville, Arkansas.
A funeral service will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Marshall Stokes and Dr. Michael Page officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m.
