Joel Ann (Hurst) Hibbert was returned to full communion with the Father in the early morning hours of August 9, 2013. She was surrounded by her family and was comforted by the peace of the Lord after defeating the struggles of this world. Ann was 76 years old.
Funeral services will be held Monday August 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the Ridgeland Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home. Visitation will be between the hours of 3 & 5 PM Sunday and after 10 AM Monday. Interment will follow the service in Lakewood Cemetery.
Ann was born in Scooba, Mississippi, grew up in Jackson and enjoyed recalling her days as a young girl in the South. Especially those memories surrounding the bustling downtown Jackson environs. She could describe vividly her days of singing and dancing on the Kiddie Matinee and spending her childhood Saturdays on 1940’s Capitol Street. She was a member of the Flying Fish swim team at Livingston Lake. Ann attended Central High School and later Clinton High School. She competed in athletics including running track and playing basketball, graduating in 1955.
Her early married life was marked by the Lord’s mission of serving the Church with her husband Bobby where he was Director of Music at Riverside Park United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. After losing Bobby in 1969, she later returned home to Mississippi and resettled her family. Ann shared 43 years of marriage with Harry with whom she felt fortunate and blessed to have been able to travel widely seeing much of the United States, the Caribbean, parts of Europe and Asia Minor.
An important part of the Lord’s call in her life was to provide a stable home for her children. She instilled a sense of unity and most importantly provided love. Her refined domestic skills allowed for regular home cooked meals fit for fine display and she made the holiday season so very special to everyone around her. Her life received renewed meaning as the family later grew with grandchildren. Central to her life was her family both immediate and extended.
A description of Ann would be incomplete without a mention of her uncanny and unmistakable sense of humor. She loved to laugh and could find the lighter side of most any situation. Ann was an eager follower of the Ole Miss Rebels, especially football and basketball. She also enjoyed following the PGA Tour where she ardently supported Phil Mickelson.
Our mother will forever reside in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Daniel W. Hurst and Clamis Estelle (Bruton) Hurst, a sister Helen Adair Hurst and her late husband Bobby Woodrow Tullos with whom she shared 4 children.

She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Kimberly Meintz (Josiah), Bonnie Lahuta (Michael), Wesley Tullos, Britney Helmick, Dale Helmick, Harrison Maisel, Alex Maisel, and Callie Tullos.
