

Phinis Kye Bethany, Jr., 89, died on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, after a short illness. He was born August 26, 1932, in Macon, Mississippi, the son of Phinis Kye Bethany, Sr. and Ora Hill Bethany. He was educated in the Macon public schools and graduated from Macon High School in 1950.
Kye attended Millsaps College and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a
Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order and Kappa Psi pharmacy fraternity. He received a commission in the U. S. Army and served as a first Lieutenant in the Army Security Agency from 1960-1962.
He married Loraine Crockett Smith of Jackson on August 29, 1958. He practiced pharmacy in
Atlanta and Jackson, where he worked for many years at Hemphill Drug Company and later at K&B Drugs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Adele Bethany Kette of Ridgeland, and his brother-in-law, Harry L. Smith of Greenwood, MS.
Kye is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Loraine Smith Bethany; daughter, Kate Campbell
(John) of Madison; grandchildren Caroline Dyess (Mark) of Madison; Gordon Campbell of Memphis; son-in-law George Kette (Denise) of Ridgeland; sister-in-law Perry Smith of Vienna, VA; niece Laura Ann Mullins (Bill) of Vienna, VA; nephew, Wesley Smith (Laura) of Greenville, MS.
Kye loved music especially Dixieland jazz. A lifelong Ole Miss fan, he could recount the highlights of many Rebel victories. He enjoyed reading, birdwatching and gardening. Kye was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 24 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland with a visitation at 2:00 followed by the funeral at 3:00.
