Laura "McCrea" Shelton

Laura McCrea Shelton passed away on October 3, 2023 at the age of 84. She was known to her family and friends as McCrea and to her loving and adoring grandchildren as “KeKe”. She was an active member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church for over 30 years.

A native of Attala County, she moved with her family to the Jackson, MS area in 1953. McCrea attended and graduated from Central High School in Jackson. Her work career spanned over 40 years – 20 years with WJTV Channel 12, and the remaining 20 years with her husband Paul in their CPA firm. In each of these environments she cultivated and made everlasting friends. She was recognized by all for her beauty, caring attitude, hard work, and helpful nature.

She and her husband Paul were happily married for 63 years and were parents of two children: Angie (Stephen) Smith and Paula Shelton (Pete). McCrea is survived by her husband Paul, two daughters, three grandchildren: Logan (Robbie) Holt, Sloane (Chris) Bowron, and Connor Smith; and seven great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Blake, Shelby and Jack Holt, and Adi, Mae Angela, and Stephen Bowron.

A memorial service will be held at Briarwood Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will be immediately prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Parkway Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. The family is grateful for the condolences but prefers donations be made to your favorite animal rescue shelter.

The family would like to thank Dr. Cynthia Allen, Angela Gill (nursing assistant), and Accent Hospice and their staff for all the loving care they have given McCrea the past two years.
