Born and raised in Jackson to R. Hugo Newcomb Sr. and Lois Murphree Newcomb. Martin spent his career helping others heal as a doctor of oncology and hematology, most recently as a partner at Jackson Oncology Associates until retirement.
Outside of work, he was an avid history buff and loved to travel domestically and abroad. He also enjoyed an occasional round of golf and going to Ole Miss football games. And he was a lifelong Anglophile, and enjoyed sharing two of his favorite British exports, Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers. But, above all, he was an amazing husband and father to his family, always willing to help them accomplish their passions, even going to Chicago Cubs games nearly every summer for almost 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Teri; his sons, Marty and Taylor and his two German Shepherds, Baldur and Buffy; his brother, Hugo Jr. (Susan); his nephews, Peter (Jennifer) and Andrew (Alison, Merrit and Max); his niece, Raina McClure (Jim, Jack and JR) and countless cousins through the Murphree side of the family.
He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Jackson, MS, on January 10th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
Memorial donations may be made to Precept Ministries at P.O. Box 182218, Chattanooga, TN 37422.
