Born June 2, 1934 in Winston County, Mississippi to Samuel Eugene Myatt and Erlene Gully Myatt, she was raised with her best friend and older sister Uyonne Myatt in Noxapater. Following her graduation from the University of Southern Mississippi she first worked teaching high school in Charleston, MS.
After accepting a position with a local business, she relocated to Jackson, where she met her future husband, Dr. James Allen Overby. Following James’ death in 1976, Phylisee began selling real estate and founded The Overby Company in 1983. She enjoyed her career in real estate and appreciated the people that worked with her. She often noted that she enjoyed many friendships through her work. She retired in 2000 to take care of her mother and to spend more time with family.
She was a loving wife, a caring mother, a grandmother who loved to spoil her grandchildren, and a loyal friend. She held many opinions with great conviction and she was happy to discuss them at length. She enjoyed talking about politics, the importance of persistence, and the joys of working in her yard. She taught her sons many things – but they never learned to appreciate the joys of working in her yard.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Earnestine Moffett, a warmhearted caregiver and sincere friend. Special thanks are also extended to the staff of The Orchard and Hospice Advantage for their compassion and professionalism.
Phylisee is survived by her children, James Allen Overby, II (Melanie) of Nashville, TN; and Scott Overby (Amanda) of Jackson; her grandchildren, James Allen Overby, III and Natalie Overby of Nashville and Isabella Overby and Avery Overby of Jackson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Erlene Myatt; her sister, Uyonne Myatt; and husband, Dr. James Allen Overby.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, January 28th, 3:00 until 6:00 P.M. and Friday, January 29th, 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland with a private graveside service to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers a donation in memory of Phylisee may be given to Alzheimers Association, Mississippi Chapter or Susan G. Komen Central Mississippi.
