
Raymond Stevens, 55, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 12:00 - 2:00 with a service at 2:30 at Christ United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Forest Park Lawndale in Houston, Texas.
He was born in Houston, Texas on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1958 to Raymond Revis Stevens of Hattiesburg, MS and Mary Moorer of Houston, Texas. Raymond attended Jackson Academy and graduated from Woodland Hills Academy and received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at Ole Miss in 1980. While at Ole Miss he pledged Phi Kappa Tau, the Delta Gamma Chapter. He was a member of the Army ROTC program at Ole Miss. As a cadet, he served in the SMP Program as a member of C Co., 2nd Bn., 20th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Upon graduation from Ole Miss, he was commissioned a lieutenant in the Military Police Corps. He served as platoon leader in the 114th Military Police Bn. He later served in a staff position in the 75th ARCOM, attaining the rank of Captain. He later joined the MS Air National Guard’s 172nd Airlift Wing and achieved E-7 rank.
He was a police officer with the Ridgeland Police Department for 20 years and served in an administration position. He has achieved several awards from both the police department and the military. He did all he could to avoid any recognition for his accomplishments because he did not like being the center of attention. While at the police department, he was called to serve active duty with the military for 7 years.
He loved spending time in Oxford and attending Ole Miss Football games, hiking and being with his wife and two sons.
Raymond is preceded in death by his sister, Penny Stevens. He is survived by his parents, Raymond Revis Stevens Sr. and his mother, Mary Moorer, his wife, Nancy, and two teenage sons, Ray Edward and Drury.
