Devoted husband and loving father, Richard Jeffery Stamm, passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, August 4, 2024. Born March 17, 1940, in Jackson, MS, Richard was the only child of Norman and Louise Stamm. Richard grew up in Jackson, MS, and graduated from Murrah High School.
After high school, Richard attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA for two years making many lifelong friends. At Washington and Lee, Richard was a member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. Richard returned to Jackson and graduated from Millsaps College. After college graduation, Richard served in the military as a medic in the Air National Guard.
A successful business owner, Richard was active in many organizations throughout the city including B’nai Brith and Beth Israel Congregation where he was a long-standing member. One of his proudest moments was recounting the history of Beth Israel in a documentary about Beth Israel’s 150th Anniversary.
Richard loved to share stories about his childhood, college experiences, and numerous friends he made over the years. He was well loved and well respected by those his life touched. Richard deeply loved his friends, his family and, especially, his soulmate, his wife, Judy. His children remember him as always being fun, loving, caring and gentle. Richard loved his scotch before dinner, a cookie after dinner and the New Orleans Saints. We hope he’s having his scotch now or a piece of Judy’s chocolate ganache cake.
Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Judy Alexander-Stamm, his two daughters, Regina Stamm Miano and her husband Alan of Dallas, TX; and Heather Supranowitz and his two grandsons, Jake, and Reed all of Pleasantville, NY.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 8, at 10:30am, at Beth Israel Cemetery in Jackson on North State Street at Marshall. Immediately after the service, friends and family are welcome at Richard and Judy’s home. Parkway Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org) in Richard’s name.
