

Ruby Earline Lewis Ellis, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2015. Born August 7, 1923 at Rose Hill, MS, in Jasper County, she spent the last 70 years living in Jackson. Her parents were Sim B. and Eva McClendon Lewis of Rose Hill. She graduated from Rose Hill High in 1941.
She is predeceased by her parents, beloved seven brothers and sisters, her first husband, George Norris Ellis, Sr., and her second husband, Thomas Louis Ellis. She is survived by two sons, George Norris Ellis, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Hamel, Illinois, and Donald Lewis Ellis and his wife, Connie, of Little Rock, Arkansas. Also are her two grandchildren, Patrick Norris Ellis, and his wife, Jessica, of San Antonio, Texas, and Kathryn Erin Ellis of Fort Smith, Arkansas; as well as her two sisters-in-law, Irene Ellis and Dot Ellis. Additionally is her stepdaughter, Betsy Shearer of Byram, and the grandchildren, Kristi Kirk (Tommy) of Huntsville, Alabama, Kandi of Johnson City, Tennesse, and Kalon Shearer (Tory) of Claypool, Indiana, as well as three great-grandchildren, Zoey, Brookely, and Rylan of Claypool, Indiana.
Ruby’s calling card was friendship and fellowship. She was always smiling and laughing, and she loved to visit, particularly with her numerous relatives. She enjoyed traveling widely, and in particular, to regularly see her children and grandchildren. She was always very active and could be found much of the time at her church, Broadmeadow United Methodist Church, where she was a proud charter member for 55 years, since its organization in December, 1949. There she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Prisi Bell Circle, and the Homemaker’s Club.
Visitation is to be at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland on Sunday, January 4, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral will be the following day, Monday, January 5, 2015, at 11:00 am at Broadmeadow United Methodist Church on Broadmeadow Drive, Jackson, with visitation preceding in the parlor. Burial is to be in Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton, Mississippi, immediately following the service.
