He was born August 23, 1940 in Robstown, Texas to Samuel Reagan Coleman, Sr. and Mary Coward Coleman. At an early age, he moved along with his family to Jackson, Ms., where he attended St. Joseph Catholic High School. After graduation, he attended Mississippi State University in Starkville where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance. He then joined the U. S. Treasury Department, Comptroller of the Currency as a national bank examiner for the next 10 years. He joined Deposit Guaranty National Bank in Jackson where he served for more than 25 years as a Vice President and Loan Officer and the Loan Review Department until his retirement in 2005.
Reagan faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Jackson where he would sit in the upper balcony and according to him, since he did not have much of a singing voice; he could sing and praise the Lord as loudly as he wanted. His daily ritual began with prayer and reading his Bible.
An animal lover, Reagan enjoyed the company of his cats, Bob, Jingles and Gizmo. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers on their annual “Brothers Trip” where all four of the Coleman brothers would meet for a weekend of fun and food with each other. He also enjoyed the annual weekend trip of former bank examiners he had worked with and kept in touch with on a regular basis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Carol Williams Coleman; a daughter, Debbie Coleman Pittman (Richard) of Brandon, Ms. and a son, Reagan Coleman,III ,of Flowood; a step daughter, Jordan Trotter Williams,(Wesley) and two step grandchildren, Charles and Maggie Williams, all of Nashville, Tennessee. He is also survived by three brothers, James Carter Coleman (Carla) of Little Rock; Vincent Edward Coleman (Bonnie) of Ridgeland, Ms., and Michael Patrick (Lauren) Coleman of New Orleans, Louisiana.
A special thanks to the staff of Parkway Health and Rehab for the wonderful care Reagan received and especially Jackie and Victoria.
