Samuel Clayton Kelly, Jr., born on July 29, 1993 and affectionately known to his friends and family as Sam Clayton, died on October 30, 2011 in route back to his beloved Ole Miss. Sam Clayton graduated with special distinction from Madison Central High School where he excelled as a student, friend, and spirited Jaguar fan. Although his friends are too many to mention, he was a true friend often offering guidance, love, support, a simple smile, and much tutoring. His wish would be for those friends to live every day with love in their hearts and a smile on their face. Upon graduating from Madison Central, Sam Clayton made the long expected journey to his beloved Ole Miss where he was a freshman. Even through difficult seasons on the field and court, Sam Clayton was an avid Ole Miss Rebel fan. He did not take kindly to barbs from his friendly rivals. Sam Clayton was a pledge in the Kappa Alpha Fraternity where he was thoroughly enjoying his new group of friends and pledge brothers. When Sam Clayton was not studying or watching the Rebels, he enjoyed his favorite pastime of deer hunting. He loved the woods even after his encounter with a friendly black bear.
Sam Clayton and his family attended Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison. On many of his baseball caps, which he was seldom without, you would find Phil. 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," which he believed with all his heart. He is survived by his mom and dad, Kim and Sam Kelly, his sisters Maggie Kate and Anna Claire, his paternal grandmother Jane Kelly (Madison, MS), his maternal grandparents Weir and Nancy Byrd (Fulton, MS), aunts and uncles, Cliff and Jane Kelly (Mt. Olive, MS), Pat Eubanks (Mendenhall, MS), and Doug Byrd (Fulton, MS) and a host of cousins, Lara Kelly Robinson (Luke), Chrissy and Drew Kelly; Daniel, Kelly and Katie Eubanks; Zach (Monica), Adam and Nick (Katie) Lee; and Jordan Lea and Allie Byrd. He was proceeded in death by his paternal grandfather James C. Kelly, Jr. and his aunt, Dee Lee. Even though Sam Clayton is gone from this earth, his memory will forever remain in our hearts until we meet again in heaven. He will always be our "partner."
