

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend Sue Rose Johnsey Denny, 84, passed away Friday April 19, 2013 at MS Baptist Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday April 22, 2013 at St. Richard Catholic Church preceded by visitation at 9:00 AM. Burial will at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Sue was born November 19, 1928, to William Clyde and Sue Johnsey, growing up in Greenville, South Carolina. Sue was an Alumnus of Winthrop University, formerly Winthrop College of Rock Hill, South Carolina. Sue met the love of her life William C. (Bill) Denny during the Korean War when Bill was stationed in her hometown. They married April 19, 1952 and moved to Jackson in 1963. Sue was a great sports fan and a wonderful athlete who enjoyed watching her grandchildren excel in sports. Sue taught dancing and tennis while in college, played softball, golf and was on the swim team.
Sue never met a stranger in her life, an energetic, outgoing and loyal person who exemplified characteristics of a southern lady. She loved people and continually offered help and encouragement to anyone in need always putting others before herself. Throughout her life and career, Sue was a very devoted mother to her family and Christian faith. She served her beloved state of Mississippi as Comptroller for the MS State Senate for 30 years. Sue was very active in social and civic affairs.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years on the anniversary date of her death; children include, Anne (Sweetie) Piazza (Sam), Kitty Howell, William C. (Billy) III (Debbie), Sally Dobbs (David). Grandchildren include: Travis Pope, Clancy Piazza, Ryan Eaves, Lesley and Kristy Howell, Will and Matt Denny, Kristin, Ashley, and Lindsey Dobbs. Great Grandchildren include: Branson and Anna Rose Eaves, and Christian Howell.
Serving as pallbearers include: Sam Piazza, Travis and Tom Pope, Will and Matt Denny, and Ryan Eaves.
