On the evening of Thursday, August 15, 2024, Thomas Keith Hancock, 66, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS, with his loving wife by his side. Born August 4, 1958, in McComb, MS, Keith was the oldest son of Thomas Dewitt and Eula Fay May Hancock.
Keith and his family left McComb when he was five years old. He would often tell people that he lived in six cities and attended eight schools while living in Illinois, Kentucky, and Missouri. He graduated High School in Mexico, MO, and enjoyed keeping in touch with his classmates by attending class reunions, connecting through Facebook, and especially through emails, texts, and phone calls. He began his college education at the University of Missouri and completed it at Murray State University in Kentucky, graduating with a degree in accounting.
Keith’s career was spent working in various positions in the railroad industry. His railroading days actually began in high school when he spent his summers working as a member of the track crew in Missouri. After college he worked in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi in management positions and as a locomotive engineer.
In 2012, Keith moved to Flowood, MS, and later to Madison, MS. He joined Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, and quickly became an active member of the Worship Arts Ministry where he tried never to miss a Sunday singing in the choir. It was also there that he met his wife, Elizabeth, marrying her in 2017.
Wherever he went, Keith loved meeting people and getting to know their stories. He was a devoted friend and neighbor to others, always offering to help out with anything they needed.
He had many interests, some of which were music, guitar, history, aviation, golf, talking football and other sports (especially with his step-son, Randall). He was always reading about a wide variety of topics which prompted a friend to comment, “Keith is a walking encyclopedia.”
Keith was preceded in death by his mother, Eula Fay May Hancock. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lindigrin-Hancock of Madison, MS; his father, Thomas Hancock (Jonita) of Smithdale, MS; his brother, Ken Hancock (Laurie) of Lead, SD; his daughter, Sarah Reid (Sawyer) of Jayess, MS; his step-daughter, Rachel Nichols (Garrett) of Houston, TX; his step-son, Randall Lindigrin of Madison, MS; and a large extended family of aunts, cousins, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, MS, beginning with visitation at 9:00 am followed by a celebration of life at 10:00 am. A brief graveside service and burial will be held at 2:30 pm at Adams United Methodist Church in Summit, MS.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Broadmoor Baptist Church’s Worship Arts Ministry.
