William Virgil Tanner

Bill Tanner, age 101, of Jackson, MS went to be with the Lord on 4/2/2017. Bill was born in Mize, MS on 3/26/1916 to William and Mary Ann Tanner. At 19, Bill married Wilma Roberts. They had a daughter, Lenda Carmen, who was the light of their lives. Wilma and Bill were married for more than 50 years. Both Wilma and Lenda met Bill with extended arms as he entered heaven.

For the past 17 years, Bill has shared his life with wife, Kathryn Warren. Kathryn has been by his side during Bill’s health decline, providing companionship and comfort.

Bill was an avid hunter and horseman. He was a charter member of the Jolly Hunting Club (1940’s) and was a charter member and president of the Jackson Rodeo Club (beginning in late 1940’s). He was known for being able to tame any horse, no matter how wild!

Bill is survived by wife—Kathryn Tanner, grandchildren—Dr. Ginger Gates and Greg Gates, great-grandchild—Tanner Gates, son-in-law— Dr. Donald Gates, sister—Billie Floyd Johnson, step children—J. Michael Warren, Rebecca Warren, and Kay Hodges.

Funeral services will be at Lakewood South Funeral Home, 430 McCluer Rd, Jackson, MS on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior (10:00-11:00 AM). Interment will follow at Lakewood South Memorial Park.
