Anita Carmen Van Voorhis

Anita Carmen Van Voorhis, age 88, of Riverside, CA passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Anita was preceded in death by her husband George Van Voorhis of Corona, CA in 1992 and her daughter Susan Devore of Phoenix, AZ in 2020. She is survived by son Steven Van Voorhis and his wife Mara of Moreno Valley, CA, son Paul Van Voorhis and his wife Allison, of Riverside, CA, son-in-law Steve Devore of Goodyear, AZ, as well as six beloved grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by beloved sister Margurite Leon, beloved nieces and nephews, and extended family both of birth and of choice throughout Southern California.

Born during The Great Depression, Anita grew up in Los Angeles, meeting George through mutual friends. They married in 1954. A few years later, they moved their young family to the Corona area. Much to the delight of her children, Anita found work in her new hometown at the Archway cookie factory. Eschewing a life of warm, fresh cookies off the conveyor belt, though, Anita eventually left Archway to devote herself to raising her family full-time. The children were conflicted. A few years later Anita would rejoin the workforce serving for many years as a teacher's aid in the Corona-Norco Unified School District.

Anita was a longtime member of the First Church of God in Corona, and more recently was a member of Northpoint Church, also in Corona. She loved to travel, visiting countries far and wide throughout her life. She was a big fan of dining experiences, but a devout avoider of onions. She was always dressed to the nines, no matter the occasion.

A visitation for Anita will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 from 5 to 9 pm. A funeral service and celebration of life occurs the following day, Saturday, June 24, from 11 am to noon, with graveside service from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. A reception immediately follows from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The Visitation, services and reception all take place at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Ave, Riverside, CA 92505.
