She was born in Bingham Canyon, Utah on Feb. 23, 1926 to Leonard Ellsworth Driggs and Angeline Durfee Driggs. At the death of her father, the rest of the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where her mother could work at the hospital. She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, and she married Douglas Eugene Gallacher on June 28, 1946.
Doug and Betty began their family and by 1952 Charlotte Marie, Douglas Lynn and Stanley Eugene had been born. They moved to the sun belt for the health of the children and lived in Yuma, Arizona, Las Vegas, Nevada (where James Lee was born), San Diego, El Cajon (Robert Dean was born and died there) and 29 Palms before settling in Highland in late 1962. They lived with their daughter in San Bernardino since 2007.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all of her life, working for the Primary and Cub and Boy Scouts for over 30 years where she earned both the Silver Arrowhead and the Silver Beaver, very prestigious awards in the scouting community. She was also a busy member of the Relief Society.
She and Doug owned and operated Gallacher Board and Care for 17 years, helping people to get back on their feet. She kept them busy and they had many interesting stories about that part of their lives. They made their clients feel like this was their home, too.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas, her daughter Charlotte Crandall, son, Douglas Lynn (Marie), daughter-in-law Patti Gallacher Norton, and son Jim (Chris). She was also the grandmother of 19, great-grandmother of 40 and great-great-grandmother of one. She is also survived by her four sisters, Glenna Driggs Klein, Maxine (Hal) Driggs Belnap, Rose Driggs Baxter and Bonnie Driggs Thomas. She is preceded in death by her sons Stanley and Robert Dean, and her brother Leonard Driggs.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1244 Pacific St. in San Bernardino, CA 92404, on Aug. 13, 2013. The viewing will be at 10:00, followed by the service at 11:00. Interment will be the following day at the Alpine Cemetery, 2495 W. Victoria Dr. Alpine, CA 91901.
