A long-time resident of Riverside, Don actually spent the first seven years of his life in the United Kingdom, where his father, Walter Moberly, was posted after World War II as an officer in the Air Force. From youth to young adult, Don was a paperboy, delivering newspapers by bicycle, earning money and prizes that resulted in trips to Disneyland, San Francisco, and ultimately, money saved for his first car.
After earning an associate’s degree in electronics at Riverside City College, Don’s money sense transferred into business acumen, as Don served as manager and then eventual president and owner of Electronics Warehouse, a retail electronics parts store founded by Don’s father in 1960. Don had a particular skill in making profit from surplus electronics components.
Don enjoyed bowling, golf, fishing, the Rams football team, and travel. He was a member of both the Eagles and Elks Lodges. Always up for a thrill, in middle age Don got certified to scuba-dive the Great Barrier Reef while Cathy snorkeled right alongside him. He also bungee jumped in New Zealand. In his home, across from his favorite leather recliner chair, Don maintained a world map of “Don and Cathy’s World Adventures” that has more than 50 pins across six continents.
Don had a predeceased daughter Kelly, and he is survived by sister Michelle Randall, son David, daughter-in-law Missy, grandchildren Grahm (predeceased), Owen, Owen’s wife Kelly, Simon, and Jonathan.
