In the village of Satapuala, Samoa in the Faleo’o Airport, Palefuionofiava’elaupule Marrisa Toaetolu graced this world with her presence on September 22, 1955. Born to Sila’ila’i and Faletolu Toaetolu, Fuiono – “Ono” for short – is the fifth child of 7 children with 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Ono grew up in Samoa, American Samoa, and then Compton, California after her family migrated to America in 1962.
Fuiono has a rare, one-of-a-kind spirit. To experience her in person is truly how one could fully understand the magnitude of her character. Her energy is as radiant as her smile. Always causing an uproar of laughter with her humor, Ono would naturally lighten up every space she entered. From the aisles of a grocery store to the aisles of her church - she continuously spread love and kindness to everyone she came in contact with. Having traveled to many parts of the world and living in Europe twice, Fuiono would often attribute the versatility of her cuisine and cooking skills to her dear friends met along these paths. Her chef expertise is as solid as her faith in Christ. To her children, she is known as, “The Greatest Master Chef in the World”. Ono is an Amazing Mother to her 6 children (4 sons, 2 daughters). She took pride in being the best Mom and the best Gigi to her 2 precious granddaughters.
Ono’s wisdom stems from beyond any realm and there, truly, is and will not ever be another like HER. She is a pure joy to be around, with an aura that leaves an everlasting impact everywhere she goes. Ono’s heart and depth of love can only be described as God sent. Her faith and love for Christ is what strengthened her, especially through the darkest of her storms. A lifelong prayer warrior, Ono was a very active member in the church. Ever since her teen years to now, Ono held various leadership positions in both the Pentecostal and Seventh-Day Adventist Churches; faithfully serving the Lord throughout all her years.
On the night of August 9, 2025, Fuiono Marrisa Toaetolu passed away at her home in Riverside, California with her family at her bedside. Beloved daughter, sister, Mother, Gigi, Aunty, wife, and Friend, Ono is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband (the father of her children), and 2 of their sons – Demetrious and Andrew Aitolu. Ono’s powerful voice, loving nature, inspirational spirit, warm hugs, infamous quotes, comeback remarks, and quick-witted humor shall forever be missed. Leaving behind her 2 daughters, 2 sons, 2 grandbabies, and husband, Fuiono is sorely missed by her children, loved ones, and every single person who knew her beautiful soul.
