06-20-1925 to 01-10-2016
Julia Brown died peacefully Sunday January 10, 2016 surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, George whom she dearly missed.
Born in Hillsdale Michigan to parents who immigrated from Poland, she was the 3rd of 6 sisters all of whom survive her. She is also survived by 2 sons (Chris and Jay), her daughters-in-law (Anna and Cindy) and her grandson Matthew who is a fireman paramedic in San Diego county.
As a teenager, working at the only theater in her little town of Hillsdale MI, she met George who worked there as a doorman. George would walk her home at night when the theater closed and was the only boy she ever dated. George and Julia were married in 1947.
During WWII her family moved to Detroit where work was plentiful. Julia and one of her sisters got jobs to help pay the family bills at the Briggs factory. They wore their hair up in scarves ( just like the ‘Rosie the Riveter’ posters from that era) and commuted via bus into the city. During the Korean war while George was serving in the military, Julia worked as an executive secretary for Hughes. After George’s military duties in the Korean war were concluded (in 1953) they moved to California. Soon they built a house in Auburn California and later eventually settled down in Riverside where they remained for the rest of their lives. George was hospitalized for the last 5 years of his life. During that time Julia drove herself to his rehab hospital every morning and stayed by his side until just before it got dark. She maintained this schedule 7 days a week, despite being in her late 80’s until George passed in 2013.
A visitation will be held on Friday February 12, 2016 from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Services will be held on Friday February 12, 2016 at 12:00pm with a graveside service to follow at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
