Gertrudis Arquimides Contreras

Gertrudis Contreras better known to his family and friends by his middle name "Arquimides," was born on March 27, 1949 in Anamorós, La Unión, El Salvador. Arquimides passed away on November 13, 2021 at the age of 72 surrounded by his loved ones.

He is survived by his adoring wife Lilian, their 3 children (Edgar, Andy and Kimberlee), four grandchildren (Joey, Raymond, Anthony and Nathaniel) and 3 siblings (Sabino, Angela, Anna). He was a loving and devoted, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Arquimides, in his youth, worked in their family farm mostly with corn and seasonal crop. With the help of some family members, he built his family home in Anamorós. In the 70’s he worked for a construction company and helped with the construction of Estadio Cuscatlan, the famous soccer stadium in San Salvador. In the late 70’s, out of the blue he decided to venture off to the United States to make a new life for himself. Not too long after, he found his lifelong career as an operational engineer. He met the love of his life, Lilian Cabrera, whom he later married, on November 14, 1981.

He retired at age 65 after 35 years as an operational engineer. During retirement he enjoyed the outdoors, waking up at 5 in the morning to take a 5-mile stroll. He loved to travel, one of his dreams was to purchase an RV and tour the country. He enjoyed gardening and maintained a beautiful garden at his home. He loved his grandchildren and watching them play soccer. He loved helping his kids with home repair projects. He would not miss his afternoon naps. On weekends he made good use of his iPad by video calling his family and friends. He was quiet in his spirituality but enjoyed reading the bible every day. He dreamed of living in a ranch somewhere in Colorado, Montana, Oregon, Texas, El Salvador, or Costa Rica. He’s found a better home now in the kingdom of heaven.

Gertrudis Contreras, mejor conocido como "Arquimides", nació el 27 de marzo de 1949 en Anamorós, La Unión, El Salvador. Arquimides falleció el 13 de noviembre de 2021 a la edad de 72 años rodeado de sus seres queridos. Le sobreviven su adorada esposa Lilian, sus 3 hijos (Edgar, Andy y Kimberlee), cuatro nietos (Joey, Raymond, Anthony y Nathaniel) y 3 hermanos (Sabino, Angela, y Anna). Era un amoroso y devoto esposo, padre, abuelo, hermano y amigo.

En su juventud, Arquimides, trabajó en su granja familiar, principalmente con maíz y cultivos de temporada. Con la ayuda de algunos miembros de la familia, construyó la casa en la que vivio su familia, en Anamorós. En los años 70 trabajó en construcción y ayudó con la construcción del Famoso Estadio Cuscatlán, en San Salvador. A finales de los años 70, de repente decidió aventurarse a los Estados Unidos en busca de nuevas oportunidades. No mucho tiempo después, encontró su carrera de toda la vida como ingeniero operativo. Conoció al amor de su vida, Lilian Cabrera, con quien se casó, el 14 de noviembre de 1981.

Se retiró a los 65 años de edad, después de 35 años como ingeniero operativo. Durante la jubilación disfrutó del aire libre, despertándose a las 5 de la mañana para su caminata diaria de 5 millas. Le encantaba viajar. Uno de sus sueños era comprar una casa rodante y recorrer el país. Le gustaba la jardinería y mantenía un hermoso jardín en su casa. Amaba a sus nietos y una de sus pasiones era atender sus juegos de futbol. Le encantaba ayudar a sus hijos con proyectos de reparación del hogar. No se perdía sus siestas de la tarde. Los fines de semana hacía un buen uso de su iPad haciendo videollamadas a su familiares y amigos. Era tranquilo en su espiritualidad, pero disfrutaba leyendo la Biblia todos los días. Soñaba con vivir en un rancho en algún lugar de Colorado, Montana, Oregón, Texas, El Salvador o Costa Rica. Él ha encontrado un mejor hogar ahora en el reino de los cielos.

A visitation for Gertrudis will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Mortuary, 11500 Arlington Ave, Riverside, CA 92505. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Queen of Angels Church, 4824 Jones Ave, Riverside, CA 92505. A committal service will occur Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Ave, Riverside, CA 92505.
