Chris was the fourth of four children born to George and Ruth (Leemon) Hoppus. He was born at the Smoky Hill Air Force Base hospital near Salina, Kansas, on February 27, 1957. When he was 2 years old, his family transferred to Riverside, California. There Chris grew up, graduating from Ramona High School in 1975. He started working at the Riverside Municipal Airport while in high school, and after graduation had several other jobs before starting work at Bell Grain in 1980. Chris worked there for almost 20 years, and then moved to Lime Mountain near Paso Robles, California, to take a job with what is now Blue Mountain Minerals. He worked there until shortly before his death.
Shortly before Chris’ move to Paso Robles and after an earlier marriage, Chris met the true love of his life: Patricia (Trish). They were two hearts that were meant to be together, and in October, 2006, they were bound together in marriage at the historic Chapel on the grounds of Camp San Luis Obispo near their home west of Paso Robles. Chris’ oldest brother, Tex Hoppus, officiated their wedding, and a more joyful wedding (and reception) has never been seen.
Chris always worked hard at his job, but his true passion was living life with Trish. He tended a home garden; researched his dad’s World War II flying to determine the details of the B-29 aircraft involved; and traveled to gatherings of family in Riverside (CA), Ridgecrest (CA), Muncie (IN), Milford (IN), fishing at Lake Vermilion, hiking in the northern Sierra Nevada mountains. He doted on his two sons and their children in the Riverside area. And he truly loved sailing his boat, engaging in sailing tournaments from San Pedro south to Mexico or taking fun trips with Trish west from San Pedro to Santa Catalina Island. Chris was an accomplished sailor and loved being on the water!
And Chris was always sharing love and laughter with all of his extended family. His smile was a constant part of his presence, and his wit and story-telling skills were known by everyone he met. One of his many endearing skills was his ability to very accurately channel his late mother’s behavior and mannerisms, and no more will be said here.
Chris is survived by his loving wife Patricia (Trish) Hoppus of Paso Robles, Calif.; son Jared Alves, and wife Melissa Alves of Beaumont, Calif., and their daughter ; son Dallas Alves, and wife Toni Alves
of Chino Hills, Calif., and their family and expected son to be Jax (Christian); brother George “Tex” (Marti) Hoppus of Ridgecrest, Calif.; brother Michael (Suzanne) Hoppus of Media, Penn.; sister Susan (Richard) Lasell of Tehachapi, Calif.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews around the country who loved Chris deeply.
