Lindsay Ann Sharpe was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic metastatic cancer on July 25, 2025. She fought a brief and courageous battle against this terminal disease with strength and grace, never complaining but accepting the inevitable path ahead of her right up to the end. She took her last breath on August 9th, surrounded by her loving family, and is no longer suffering from this terrible disease. She will be dearly missed but we are thankful she is in a much better place.
Born in Dubuque, Iowa on November 13, 1943, Lindsay graduated from Wahlert High School in Dubuque in 1962. She was an excellent student who enjoyed playing tennis, was a cheerleader, participated in student government, was a member of the glee club, volunteered at the hospital, and was State High School Doubles Champion in Tennis, a sport she continued to enjoy for the rest of her life.
As a freshman in high school, she met the love of her life, Larry Sharpe, after school at an ice cream parlor. On their first date as sophomores in high school, Larry was “smitten”. They dated through high school and college, sending love letters to each other and attending college functions.
Lindsay went on to study nursing at the University of Iowa, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 1970. Her inspiration for becoming a nurse developed from caring for her grandfather who also died from pancreatic cancer.
Lindsay married Larry after his first year of medical school in June of 1967. She moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and worked at the VA Hospital on the psychiatric ward there and became head nurse.
Lindsay enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit many places throughout the United States as well as abroad with Larry over the years, including living in Okinawa, Japan for eighteen months while Larry was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base. They decided to plant roots in Riverside, CA where Larry worked as a pediatrician with Riverside Medical Clinic.
Lindsay was involved with PTA in support of her children, from elementary through high school. She served as Poly High School PTA President. Lindsay was always there to support her children in their extracurricular activities. She enjoyed volunteering with Assistance League of Riverside, where her claim to fame was introducing cash registers to the Thrift Shop. Lindsay joined a weekly bowling league and played tennis several times per week at the neighborhood Swim Club before later joining Victoria Club. She also enjoyed competitive tennis, participating in USTA tournaments around Southern California. When tennis became hard for her, she began playing more Bridge. In July, Lindsay was recognized along with her partner for winning first place in Bridge at Victoria Club. Lindsay was a part of a couple of different Book Clubs over the years as she always enjoyed reading a good book. Lindsay was a founding member of Stand Up Riverside. She started her own part-time business, Nomarr Custom Tablepads and Linens.
Family was everything to Lindsay. Her greatest joy was her three children and seven grandchildren. Lindsay is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Mildred Arthur. She is survived by her husband Larry, whom she has been married to for 58 years, as well as her daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Peterson and her grandsons Tyler, Ryan, and Brendan; son, Jeffrey (Brandy) Sharpe and her granddaughters Ashtyn and Addisyn; and son, Christopher (Jeanette) Sharpe and her grandsons Jaxson and Caleb; as well as her sister, Audrey Wallis of Dubuque, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to charities that were near and dear to Lindsay’s heart: Wounded Warriors Project, Tunnels to Towers Foundation, or Riverside City Mission.
A funeral service for Lindsay will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church, 3680 Arlington Ave, Riverside, CA 92506.
