Lois Gertrude Camping

Lois Gertrude (Blom) Camping, from Riverside, went to her heavenly home on December 17, 2023, at the age of 97. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Jeanette Blom; her husband William Camping; her brothers Wesley Blom and Bruce Blom; her children Donald Camping and Melinda Camping; and her granddaughters Aymee Maier and Luanna Camping.

She is survived by her children: Terry Camping (Ginny); Tom Camping (Linda); Nancy Holderman (Bill) and Sandra Camping. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Lois was born in Highland, Indiana on October 4, 1926. She attended Calvin Christian College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she received her teaching degree. She also met her husband William Camping there. Early in their marriage, Lois and Bill moved to Southern California. In 1966, they settled in Norco, CA where they attended Church on the Hill and raised their family of six children. They were married sixty-six years before his death in 2016.

Lois began a long association with Special Olympics after her sixth child, Melinda, was born with Down Syndrome. For almost four decades, she spent countless hours taking Melinda to practice and as a volunteer and spectator at local Special Olympics events all over Southern California. She was a huge Angels fan. Lois took up the sport of bowling which became her life long hobby. She also enjoyed reading, swimming, camping, travelling and especially spending time with her many grandchildren and extended family.

A graveside service for family only will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Ave, Riverside, CA 92505. A memorial service will occur Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at CrossPoint Church, 6950 Edison Ave, Chino, CA 91710. A reception will occur Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at CrossPoint Church, 6950 Edison Ave, Chino, CA 91710.

In lieu of flowers, family has requested to donate towards the Special Olympics of Southern California.
