Raymond Richard Smith

On Monday, July 11, 2022, Rick Smith, dad, grandpa, friend, passed away at the age of 68.

Rick was born Raymond Richard Smith on February 28, 1954 in San Gabriel, CA to Les and Evelyn (Logue) Smith. He was raised in the faith, and attended the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn throughout his life. He was baptized by Bro. Clint Brown in 1973. On April 25, 1974, he married Sandy Irene Kershaw. They raised two children, Richie and Sandra Lynn. He became a widower after 37 years of marriage.

Rick was ordained an Elder of the church in 1992, along side Bro. Steve Brown. They served together as Elders for 30 years. He was a devoted Christian and often helped others. His legacy is hospitality, compassion, charity, and faith.

Rick had a passion for music. He led hymns and songs of worship in church and among family and friends. He also enjoyed popular music of the 1950’s, 60’s… "Oldies but goodies." A few of his favorite artists included Roy Orbison, Ricky Nelson, The Everly Brothers, the Righteous Brothers, and many more. Rick could often be found singing Karaoke at home and in public. He did a pretty good Roy Orbison impression.

Rick was preceded in death by his dad, Les; his step-dad, Lyle; his mom, Evelyn; his sister, JoAnne; and his wife, Sandy. He is survived by his sister, Sherry; son and daughter-in-law, Richie and Jeanie; his daughter and son-in-law Sandra Lynn and David; his grandchildren, Victoriana and Nathaniel, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, brethren and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022 at Crestlawn Memorial Park on Arlington Ave. at 12 o’clock p.m. followed by a memorial service at the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on Lindsay St. in Riverside, CA. at 1:30 p.m
