

ROBERT ROLAN RASP, 81 Entered peacefully into eternal rest surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer on April 4, 2012 at his home in Riverside, Ca. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Stephanie Skamnes-Hocking. Bob was born the youngest of three in York, Nebraska on October 10, 1930 and was raised in Washington, D.C. In 1945 moved with his family to Seattle, Washington where Bob graduated from high school in 1947 with a football scholarship. He played football at Univ. of Washington, then transferred to play at Whitworth College where he met and married his wife, Helen Dunlap on March 31, 1951. After college Bob worked in sales then in 1964 after moving to Riverside, Ca became a salesman for Inland Steel. In 1968 he changed careers to work for Riverside County Probation Department as a counselor at Juvenile Hall helping the troubled youth. The "King of Hugs" retired after 25 years and then joined the Janet Goeske Center in 1996 where he developed a family "away from home". An avid sports enthusiast he loved to participate or watch any sport but favoring football and later in life developing a love for the game of pool. He served tirelessly on the Foundation's Board of Directors until recently when his health prevented him from doing so. He was Captain of the Pool Team which won City Championships in the Senior League for seven years running. He was involved everyday at the Janet Goeske Center Center and enjoyed playing bridge, scrabble and pool there. Bob was a devoted, dedicated family man and a true friend always putting others needs in the forefront. He was a generous, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great-grandfather and friend. Bob is survived by his wife Helen; four daughters, Caron (Steve) Almquist, Blythe, Ca, Sandra Skamnes, Riverside, Ca, Anita (Bill) Joor, Corona, Ca and Laura Sanchez, Apple Valley, Ca.; ten grandchildren: Lessa, Clint & Kirk (Lisa) Almquist, Blythe, Ca., Scott Skamnes, Riverside, Ca, Lauren and Veronica Joor, Corona, Ca, Tim, Jonathan and Elizabeth Sanchez, Apple Valley, Ca and seven great-grandchildren: Hunter Hocking, Kody, Lena and Kase Almquist, Katie Huff, Keisha Sanchez and Lennox Elliott. Bob will be missed greatly and will always be remembered as assiduous, a true friend and a man of character, integrity and compassion. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Bob will be held at the Janet Goeske Center of Riverside, Ca. on April 10 at 11 am.
