Sandra Dell Reierson, also known as Sandy, Mom, Grammy, and Mrs. Reierson (to her thousands of former students and their families), passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on November 21, 2024, following a brief illness. Her life was constantly blessed with wonderful people and experiences. She truly loved all whom she considered a friend neighbor, student, colleague, or fellow community member. She also cherished her role as a stand-in Mom and Grammy for anyone who needed her. She joyously nurtured life-long bonds that were developed and maintained for decades. All have easily recognized her beaming smile and positive outlook. She taught countless students innumerable lessons, and was a consistent example of kindness, faith, patience, and selflessness.
Sandra was born on October 15, 1944 in Huntington Park, California to Gerald and Marjorie Sines. Sandra's mother often said that the day she was born was the happiest day of her life. Sandra was an only child and made sure to surround herself with large numbers of people whenever she could. She graduated from Warren High School in Downey, CA in 1962, and from Long Beach State University in 1966. She was blessed with 59 years of marriage to her beloved husband, Donald Reierson. They met in their pre-teen years as members of the same youth group at South Gate Community Presbyterian Church. Their bond was deep and one of their most treasured gifts. Their love spanned nearly 70 years and is a lasting testament to commitment, family, and faith.
Her lifelong passion for reading is evidenced by her personal libraries and recommendations, the stacks of books she always packed in her suitcase, and her active participation in local book clubs. She also treasured traveling the world with family and friends. Some of her favorite places to be included Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Yorkshire, Maui, Switzerland, Thailand, Cambria, Singapore, Norway, Los Angeles, and home in Riverside with her loved ones close by. An avid UCLA football and basketball fan, she tailgated and cheered from the stands for over 50 years or watched intently from her beloved "perch" at home. Above all, Grammy loved to be with her grandchildren, and attended or supported countless sporting events, plays, school activities and fundraisers for each of her six angels.
Sandra is survived by her husband Donald, daughters Kristin Kund (husband Greg) and Kaitlin Reierson, son Nathan Reierson (wife Amanda), and six grandchildren: Skylar and Tobin Kund, Lucy and Luke Bilhartz, and William and Carter Reierson.
