Colten Glen Johnson passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 13th, 2026 at the age of 36 years old. He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Kathy; father, Vic; stepmother, Laurie; siblings Kylee, Ryan, Brian, Amy, Corey, and Shane; and his grandmother, Liz. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glen, Jean, Burt and Don.
Colt was born in Salt Lake City, where he spent most of his life. The youngest child in a blended family, Colt had no problem living up to his title of baby of the family. He had an adventurous spirit from a young age and seemed to have no fear of risk or consequences. It was these characteristics which often led to spirited outcomes such as boxcar racing down the stairs, ‘borrowing’ mom’s car in elementary school, and racing dirt bikes down the canal road at all hours of the day.
Naturally inquisitive, Colt always wanted to understand how things worked—occasionally taking apart items he probably shouldn’t have. As he grew older, his playful nature evolved into a love for humor and pranks, rarely missing a chance to make others laugh. Though he mellowed in recent years, he remained an adrenaline enthusiast at heart, especially when it came to fast cars.
Colt found joy in simple, meaningful moments—spending time at the range with family, playing poker or video games with friends, helping others with car repairs, and, of course, dominating family game nights.
Though often seen as quiet, reserved, and private, Colt carried a deep well of compassion. He faced life’s challenges with strength and independence, rarely asking for help, yet he was always the first to offer it. He was a steady presence for those he loved—offering a shoulder to cry on, a great big bear hug, or a distraction to lift someone’s spirits. Colt cared deeply for those in his inner circle and would do anything to support them. Those who knew him best will tell you he had a heart the size of Texas and a sense of loyalty to match.
A celebration of life in Colten’s honor will be held Saturday, April 11th. Additional details will be shared with family and friends within the next week. Please join us to celebrate Colten’s life by sharing memories, photos and messages of love.
Our family extends sincere gratitude for the love, support, and sympathy shown to us during this time of bereavement
