Donald, or Don as he was known to most, was born in Price, Utah and grew up in the Price and Salt Lake areas. He also lived in California for many years. He was the second of seven children born to Clark “Rocky” and Norma (Boren) Rhodes.
He spent many years working as a police officer in Helper, Utah and in South Salt Lake City, Utah. He truly enjoyed being in law enforcement, he was proud to Serve and Protect.
He married three times and had five children. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely. He had a compassionate heart for animals, especially for cats. And he treasured and missed his long-time friend and dog, Champ. Don was also an avid hunter earlier in his life. He enjoyed hunting with his father, brothers and his sons.
Two of his proudest moments were when he and Peg, and the boys (Mike and Joey) moved into the house they had built in Helper, Utah. And when he and Peg renewed their wedding vows after 25 years of marriage.
He was recently plagued by a hiatal hernia. After three surgeries and various complications, he was unable to fully recover. He did his very best to face these complications and setbacks with dignity and courage despite the pain and frustration. Don had faith in God and was not scared at the end. He prayed for strength and answers, but he was never bitter. He was thankful for his family and friends. His only regret was not having more time with his family, and he missed being at home.
Don was a deeply loving man who showed love and kindness to those around him. He will be truly missed. Upon his death he wanted only a simple prayer service with family and close friends, and to be laid to rest beside Peg in their family burial plot in Ferron, Utah.
Proceeded in death by his wife and the love of his life, Peggy Ann (Petersen) Rhodes; both of his parents, Clark “Rocky” Merle Rhodes and Norma Cremona Boren Rhodes; four of his siblings, Gayle “Dusty” Rhoades, Donna “Carol” Rhodes Brown, LaRayne Rhodes Howa Esplin, Rocky Rhodes; his son, Joseph “Joey” Rhodes; and his granddaughter, Monique Rhodes.
Survived by his children, Gerry Hookstra (Gene), Donnie Rhodes (Richael), Kevin Rhodes, Michael Rhodes; his grandchildren, Mathew Domire (Gerry), Dustin Rhodes (Donnie), Brytnye Aragon (Kevin), Kayla Faye Gray (Joey); his great grandchildren, William Domire (Mathew), Maddox Domire (Mathew), Zahyn Aragon (Brytnye), Kaydn Aragon (Brytnye), Maxyn Aragon (Brytnye); and his siblings, Judy Sizemore (Kyle), Ted Rhodes (Norma).
Rest in peace dad. We love you. And we know that you will find comfort and happiness being at Peg’s side once again.
