1947 – 2015
“Only a life lived in the service to others is a life worth living.” -Albert Einstein
Julie Ahlstrom, age 67, of Herriman, UT passed away due to complications from surgery on October 28, 2015. In the two weeks since the surgery, we have been overwhelmed by the amount of love and support we have received from family, friends, the hospital staff at St. Mark’s Hospital and even complete strangers.
Julie was born on November 6, 1947 in Peru, IN, to Dell C. and Lovica Gilbert and was the fourth of seven children. Julie married the love of her life and eternal companion, Kent Ahlstrom in the Manti Utah LDS Temple 47 years ago, and was the proud mother of four children, Leslie (Dirk), Luanne, Lonny (Cris) and Stephanie (Kurt). As much as she loved her children, her grandchildren were truly the apple of her eye.
Julie dedicated her life to family and serving others. Alongside her husband, Kent, she served three LDS Spanish speaking missions (Quito, Ecuador; Lima, Peru; Cochabamba, Bolivia) and was preparing to do a fourth English speaking mission. In addition, they took two humanitarian “vacations” to small villages in Mexico and organized annual family service projects.
Even though we all argued about who was the “favorite” child or grandchild, she made us all feel like we held that title. This also extended to friends and all who she came in contact with especially her sister, Nora and brother, Chuck. She taught everyone to love unconditionally, never judge, always lend a shoulder to cry on, and that M&M’s make everything better. Her legacy will live on in each of us.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at 11 a.m., at the Copper Creek 2nd Ward, 12280 South 5600 West, Herriman, UT 84096. There will be a viewing Monday, November 2, 2015, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and also Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. immediately prior to the service. Interment will take place at the Lehi City Cemetery, 1525 North 600 East, Lehi, UT 84043. Mom believed everything was better with a little bling. For those attending the services, please wear something sparkly in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the LDS Missionary Fund (https://www.ldsphilanthropies.org/missionary.html) or spend a special night with your family.
