Katina Ophelia, age 43, passed away peacefully in her home on December 18, 2021 surrounded by those who loved her dearly. Katina was a mother from a young age and cherished the time she spent with her children, who were “her world”. Her aptitude for motherhood and big heart led to her being called “Mom” by many.
That generosity of heart didn’t stop at family; she often opened up her home, literally, for those who needed somewhere to go, a helping hand, or a friend to listen. She had a knack for finding friends that quickly became her “Framily”, and loved to host game nights, Friendsgivings, dinners and parties. Katina loved to surround herself and others in the aura of love, laughter, and good food.
Katina was an incredibly generous soul who dedicated hundreds of hours of her life to volunteering with many organizations, helping people in need, and making homemade gifts for loved ones. Katina spent over a decade with the Utah Pride Center, starting as a part-time volunteer and becoming the volunteer coordinator for the Utah Pride Festival. She spent several years with Wizarding Days and had a leadership position with the Utah Gay Rodeo Association (UGRA). Katina also spent countless hours working with her childrens’ schools on everything from ushering performances, to making food for choir practice, to quilting 6 blankets for the performing arts teachers (having had no previous quilting experience before hand).
Katina was an impressive crafter. She could reupholster, alter clothing, bake, make jewelry, paint, or pretty much do anything you could ask for. Her talent was abundant to all who visited her home. Katina’s most recent crafting excursions included gifts of love and support to other women she met who were also fighting a battle against breast cancer.
Katina touched the hearts of many and will be fiercely missed.
She enjoyed the phrase “Live, Laugh, Love” and she did exactly that.
