November 21, 2023. Kobe was born on July 11, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the first born of Dave and Sarah Sellers. Dave and Sarah knew when they married that they wanted a big family and lots of children with whom they could share their love and enthusiasm for life. As their first born, Kobe was showered with love every single day of his beautiful life. As the oldest brother of six children, he created a unique relationship with each of his siblings. Kobe shared his love of sports and the Lakers with his brother Bryce.
He was the loudest cheerleader at Solena and Samantha’s soccer games, he gave Scarlett the best snuggles, and was a frequent client of Sabrina’s foot massages. He will always have a piece of their hearts as they carry him and the memories they made together in theirs.
As a young boy, one of Kobe’s favorite activities was exploring nature and collecting artifacts from his adventures. He brought home sticks, rocks and any other random object he could fit in his hands and pockets. He inherited his parents’ zest for life and shared it with everyone he met. His signature grin and bright blue eyes often hinted at the mischievous pranks he was constantly planning. Dave and Sarah taught him to believe in himself and to dream big. He faced life with a huge heart and a ready smile, eager to learn and grow and ensure everyone was having fun!
Number 34, KOBEAST was a natural athlete, a champion basketball player for Lone Peak High School, and was conditioning in weight training to compete in power-lifting contests. Two of his mottos were ‘Don’t be soft’ and ‘Power through it’, and that’s how he lived: no excuses, no limitations. His second home was the gym, where he constantly pushed himself to break his personal records. He planned to have a career in the health and fitness industry, coaching others to create healthy and happy bodies and minds. Growing up, epilepsy threatened to curtail Kobe’s ability to live life the way he wanted: to its fullest. Kobe bravely chose to undergo several complicated brain surgeries performed by Doctor Bollo that ultimately enabled him to achieve the goals he’d set for himself.
One of those goals was to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In July, Kobe returned from serving the people of Bismark, North Dakota, as a full time missionary. He loved sharing the good news of the gospel and his testimony of God’s redeeming love for His children and of the eternal nature of families. Kobe effortlessly set an example of personal excellence, humility, authenticity, and loving unconditionally without judgment. His enduring love lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and be loved by him. We celebrate and are inspired and uplifted by your beautiful life, Kobe.
Kobe is survived by his loving parents, Dave and Sarah, his brother Bryce, and his sisters Solena, Samantha, Scarlett, and Sabrina, who look forward to being reunited with him. Kobe has a large, close-knit extended family full of loving relatives who miss Kobe, including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
