Mari-Anne Ax Peterson

Mari-Anne was born on August 28, 1934 to Gertrud Margareta Andersson Ax and Gunnar Gottfrid Napolean Ax, and was raised in Jӧnkӧping, Sweden. She immigrated to the United States in 1957, settling in Ogden, Utah. While there, working as a nurse in the old Dee Hospital, Mari met her sweetheart, Bruce Eldon Peterson. The two were married on August 29, 1960 in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple, Utah. Mari and Bruce raised their two daughters in Fullerton, California. After Bruce passed away, Mari provided in-home nursing care for several people who were homebound. Mari loved her Swedish homeland and enjoyed sharing the language and traditions with her children and friends. The love of her native Sweden culminated in a Family Legacy Trip to Sweden with taking her grandchildren (and children) to experience it with her. She also enjoyed doing handiwork, including needlepoint, embroidery, cross-stitch and quilting, gifting many friends and loved ones with wall hangings and baby quilts. She loved her family and enjoyed doing projects with them and playing games. She will be remembered for her courage, independence, work ethic, appreciation for quality, and enthusiasm for travel and play.

Mari-Anne is survived by her children, Colleen M. Peterson and Catherine Stermetz Garner; siblings, Gunvor Antevik and Else-Marie Paulsson; grandchildren, CJ Stermetz and Katie Stermetz Standifird, and great-grandchild, Dawson Standifird

Preceded in death by her parents Gertrud & Gunnar Ax; husband, Bruce Eldon Peterson; brothers, Viking Ax, Gosta Ax, Allan Ax, Nils Ivar Ax, Gunnar Ax, Sven Ax and sister, Gullan Ax.

Services will be Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 1:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 353 E. 400 North, Spanish Fork, Utah where the family will receive friends from 12:00noon – 12:45 pm, prior to the funeral.

Interment will be held at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery immediately following.
