She was only 69 years old and was able to pass to the other side of the veil at home and surrounded by loved ones, after years of battling health challenges. Born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on August 22, 1956, Maribel lived to serve others in any capacity she could and wanted to share her love of Christ with everyone.
Maribel grew up in a little town, Potrerillos, Honduras, on the outskirts of the industrial city. Her and her siblings had a humble upbringing that consisted of many challenges, and yet they thrived by assisting their mother and father in their endeavors. They all learned to work hard from a young age. This work ethic would serve Maribel as she became successful in her career.
Maribel was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 1975, while studying pharmacology in Tegucigalpa, she first heard of the church through a friend, Linda Zeitun, who was equally competitive, that declared to her, after being a close second, “You’re very smart, but I have something you don’t have. I have the Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life.” This started a journey for her as she learned of the teaching of Christ specific to the church. With her family being devout Catholic, she still followed her heart and become a member of the church. She knew what she wanted always and was stubborn to do what she thought was right, so when she joined the church, she started a movement in her family that would include all, but her father, being baptized, many of her siblings serving missions, and many more wonderful acts of faithful service. She was a pioneer to her family and many friends in Honduras.
Her first marriage on December of 1981 provided the first loves of her life, her daughters Rocio and Marisol whom she adored unconditionally and spoiled as much as she could. For her own safety and theirs, she moved to Utah in 1997. On September 26, 1998, she married her dear R. Thomas England. Their relationship was a beautiful friendship and provided companionship for both. Starting over in her career was a challenge, and she worked so hard to work as a pharmacist in the U.S. but with language barriers she was only able to achieve becoming a pharmacy technician, something her family was so very proud of, and she worked for years before her health challenges made it hard for her to be on her feet. She was able to have disability benefits and stay at home eventually.
After Tom retired they studied the scriptures often, prayed and learned together, as they shared their passion for the church. They loved each other and enjoyed late night movies and delicious takeout food. They enjoyed visits from family and friends, and the occasional visit to family’s homes and restaurants. Tom grew ill, and was placed at Sagewood in Daybreak for 24/7 care, a decision that was hard for the entire family and affected them both. After only fifteen days, he passed and Maribel moved in with her daughter and her family. She was forever grateful to be taken care of, as hard as it was for her. She took solace in knowing she was surrounded by her daughter and grandkids in the home, Korean novels, Hallmark movies, and documentaries of the church, and her favorite foods. This change of loss and lifestyle started her decline in health even more. She had missed Tom so much, as we are convinced, he missed her equally and called for her. We are grateful they are together again in death and both no longer suffering in their mortal state.
She is survived by her daughters, Rocio Holker (Mike), Marisol Peterson (James), her beloved siblings and their families, Miriam Jaar, Sandra Jaar, Gina Aguilar (Cesar), Raul Jaar (Angela), Bertha Jaar, all of Tom’s children whom she loved dearly, Kirsten Deakin (Brian), Tiffanie England, Stephanie Winger (Mark), Holly England, Brandon England, Joseph England (Kathie), Jonathan England (Kellee), Spencer England (Carly), Tyler Lake (Cindy), and Roma Christiansen (Shaylon), 40 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
Maribel was preceded in death by her beloved R. Thomas (Tom) England, mother and father Elena del Carmen Welchez de Jaar and Salomon S. Jaar, brothers Salomon Jaar Welchez and Juan Jose Jaar Welchez, Tom’s brothers Clark and Jed England, mother and father in law Margaret England and Rex England, step son Robert Lake, grandson Landin Deakin, aunts and uncles, and many more loved ones.
A viewing prior to services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4171 W. Lake Bridge Dr., South Jordan, UT at 9:00 am-10:30 a.m. Funeral Services will occur at 11:00 a.m. with interment directly following at Wasatch Memorial Park South Valley located at 13001 S. 3600 W.
