Donna was born June of 1959 in Roanoke, Va. to Harry Ray and her mother Louise Ray. Donna grew up in Roanoke and graduated from Northside High School in 1977. Donna continued her education at VWCC in Roanoke and earned an AAS degree. She worked and retired from Friendship Manor as a devoted Certified Nursing Assistant. She also devoted her life to raising her two sons, Michael and Deric.
Donna was known for her compassion for caring for her family and all her patients. She with her very quick wit, her warmth and humor made everyone smile.
After retirement, she loved to travel and visit her grandchildren. Her favorite place to travel was visiting Florida and enjoying the sites she got to visit with her son and the wonderful warm weather. She also enjoyed eating Sunday dinner with family and spending happy times with grandchildren making memories.
Donna is survived by her oldest son Michael Melvin, wife Rose and their son Bradley and youngest son Deric Melvin and his daughter Vanessa. She is survived by an older sister Patricia Cooper, older brothers Anthony Ray and wife Carolyn, Jerry Ray and wife Sharon all of Roanoke. Along with her two wonderful grandchildren, Vanessa and Bradley, Donna is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both parents.
A memorial and celebration of her life will be held a later by her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a donation made to MDA and for you to keep her in your thoughts.
