

Charles Bishop Knox, Jr., 92, of East Moline, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Aledo Health and Rehab Center in Aledo, IL. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at 12:00 pm at the Hodgson Funeral Home in Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:30 am until the service, at the funeral home. Charles was born July 22, 1921 at Moline Public Hospital, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Ninemires) Knox. He was a life-long resident of Rock Island, IL, graduating from Rock Island High School in 1939, & attended the former Moline Business College.
He served in the US Navy from 1941 until 1945 in naval intelligence stationed in the Pacific Theatre. He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Holstrom on April 8, 1945 in Geneseo, IL; she preceded him in death January 12, 2012.
Charles retired on August 1, 1983 after over 42 years with Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Company and the former People’s Power Co. He retired as a supervisor in the electric transmission and distribution department.
Charles was a life-long member of the South Park Presbyterian Church in Rock Island and his memberships had included: V.F.W., American Legion, American Association of Retired Persons, Rock Island High School Alumni Association and a former member of the Moline Elks Lodge.
His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, fishing, cooking, genealogy and music.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Charles B. (Barb) Knox, III, Silvis, IL; granddaughter, Jennifer L. (Mark) Rummell, Houston, TX; grandson, Michael C. Knox, Rock Island; step-granddaughter, Candace (Bruce) Woods, Coal Valley, IL and great grandchildren: Adrian McDevitt, Hunter Woods and Charlie Rummell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Carol Knox.
