Carol Ann (Goguen) Bowness, a pillar of love, hope, and compassion, passed away peacefully after her courageous battle with cancer on April 17, 2026, surrounded by her cherished children, family, and close friends. Born on January 10, 1969, in Quincy, MA, Carol was the ninth of ten children of the late Cecile and Joseph Russell Goguen. Her life leaves a legacy of kindness and dedication that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew her.
A proud graduate of Quincy High School, Carol pursued her passion for helping others by earning an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Quincy College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Curry College. Her education laid the foundation for a remarkable career devoted to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. She truly made a special connection and meaningful impact in everyone she has met, and worked alongside.
Carol was known for her beautiful smile, generosity, and her gift for offering thoughtful advice. She found joy in simple pleasures like crafting, solving jigsaw puzzles with her nieces, and fishing with her fiancé, Mike. The beach was Carol’s sanctuary, where she found peace and happiness. Since childhood, she spent her summers surrounded by family and friends at Nantasket.
Carol was also a beacon of hope and strength—a true warrior who faced illness with remarkable courage throughout her adult life. Despite the many challenges she endured, she met each day with resilience, grace, and an unwavering determination. She inspired everyone around her with her strength, never allowing her struggles to define her, but instead using them to deepen her compassion and care for others.
Carol’s greatest passion in life was caring for others, which shone most brightly in the way she raised her three children. Nothing brought her more joy than being a mom. She was also a second mother and grandmother figure to her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephew.
Carol is survived by her fiancé, Michael Schubert, and his son, Jordan; her children, Hilary Adler and her husband Jeff, Hannah Iattarelli and her husband Frank, and Jake Bowness and his fiancée Lynsi Spees; her beloved dog, Pax; and her siblings Joseph Goguen, Doreen Rose and her husband Andy, Lawrence Goguen, AnnMarie Brusin and her husband Mike, Steven Goguen and his wife Corey, Margaret Goguen, and Joanne Goguen. She was predeceased by her siblings David Goguen and Mary Goguen. Her spirit will continue to live on through them and the countless lives she touched.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 23, from 4:00–7:00 PM at Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St. (Route 53), Hanover, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 24, at 9:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 403 Union St., Rockland, MA, followed by burial at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree, MA.
Carol Ann (Goguen) Bowness will be remembered as a loving mom, fiancée, sister, aunt, and friend. Her legacy of compassion, resilience, and advocacy will continue to inspire all who knew her. Rest in peace, our dear Carol.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Carol’s honor.
