

Ben moved to Coral Gables, Florida when he was two weeks old, he was the oldest of eleven children. He graduated from St Theresa School and the University of Miami. Ben proudly served his country in the Navy as a carrier pilot during WWII. He married Aldaretta Dunmyer on May 29, 1946.
After his father passed away in 1953 he took over the family business and changed the name to American Marine Covering. He designed the famous "Bimini Top". He was known internationally in the boating industry for his work. Ben was very active in the Knights of Columbus and the St Vincent de Paul Society where he served on the national board. He was a devout Catholic who served as a Eucharistic Minister at the Church of Epiphany, Miami, Florida and St. John the Evangelist of Viera, Florida. Ben was also a member of Miami Rotary Club, Propeller Club, Executive Club of Miami and the Kiwanis Club of Miami. Besides boating he enjoyed playing golf and bridge.
A dedicated husband, father of eight children, grandfather of twelve, great-grandfather of three and patriarch to over 200 nieces and nephews. Ben is preceded in death by his daughter Mary Anne LaPointe Morrison.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years "Al" children Ben LaPointe (Sally), Ray LaPointe, Tom LaPointe (Susie), Jeanne Meredith (Mark), Bob Lapointe (Michelle), Patty Sweeney (Michael) and Barbara Albrecht (Bob).
A funeral mass for Benjamin will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St John The Evangelist Catholic Church, 5655 Stadium Parkway, Melbourne, FL with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, Florida.
