First and foremost, Bruce will be remembered as a loving husband and father who was the ultimate example of faith, love, kindness, gentleness and humility. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, son, Jeffrey and three brothers Kendall (David), Dale (Michelle) and Paul, as well as nine nieces and nephews.
He was born in New Britain, CT in 1966 to Kendall Hambidge Sr. and Joan Hambidge and moved to Rockledge, FL in 1980 with his family. Bruce and Cindy met in 1989; it was truly love at first sight. They married in 1992, with their only son born in 1993. In more than 32 years together, Bruce and Cindy rarely spent time apart. Sharing common interests, they did almost everything together.
Bruce worked diligently during his more than 36-year career with the same company and progressed to the position of Systems Integration Consultant at Peraton, Inc. (formerly part of Harris Corporation and originally Software Technology, Inc.). In his many years there he developed long lasting friendships with many of his co-workers and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
In his earlier years, when Jeffrey was young, Bruce served as an assistant leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He enjoyed many years of campouts, pack meetings and special events where he loved teaching the boys many valuable lessons. He felt that it was essential to pass on practical knowledge and the love of God and Country to the next generation of young men.
Bruce always worked hard to accomplish his goals, and in 2013, after years of study and practice, he earned his Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He also had a goal of learning to sail, and he successfully mastered sailing his Laser sailboat. He participated in sailboat races and regattas on the Indian River.
He was a devoted member of Faith Fellowship Church for nearly 20 years and served as an usher until his diminished eyesight no longer permitted him to do so. In his journey of faith, he attended and later served as a team member and speaker on many Via de Cristo men’s Christian weekend retreats, helping to spread the gospel and love of Christ in our community.
All who knew Bruce will remember his love of cars, especially Mustangs and Porsches. He was a member of the Space Coast Porsche Club serving as the Insurance and Safety Chair, and was also known as “the Badge Man,” who created name badges for the membership. Bruce and Cindy shared a love for cars and participated in many exciting events with the Porsche Club.
The peace of nature was one of Bruce and Cindy’s shared passions. They took many trips to the north Georgia mountains and enjoyed hiking to many of the area’s beautiful waterfalls. Sitting near the tumbling waters and hearing them rush by brought such solace, drawing them closer to the awesome revelation of God in His creation.
Even though Bruce had significant hearing loss and his eyesight had deteriorated to the point that he was legally blind, he always had a positive attitude. All his life, he said he was blessed beyond measure. He didn’t realize that those who knew him were the blessed ones. Bruce loved everyone he met and considered them more important than himself, no matter who they were.
