

Charles Frederick Settgast, Jr. WEST MELBOURNE - Passed away peacefully at William Child’s Hospice House on December 19, at the age of 87. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Barbara, his two children, Diane Young-Viesins (Rob), and David (Desiree), and his three grandsons, Zachary (Kara), Tucker, and Strider. Charles was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles Sr., and Viola Settgast. He was their only child, born on August 11, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY. Charles, “Charlie”, grew up in Queens, NY, and earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Physics from Queens College, and went on to receive his Master’s degree in Industrial Management from the Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He married Barbara on November 18, 1961, and Diane and David were born shortly thereafter. Charlie had a long career as a program manager for many companies, starting as a section head with Harris Corporation in Syosset, NY, then transferring to their Semi-Conductors division in Melbourne in 1971. Charlie and his family lived in Indialantic for many years, during which time he was very active in local politics, serving as a Councilman for Indialantic, a member of the zoning board, and president of the Indialantic Homeowners Association. He remained active in local politics and public service for the remainder of his life. Charlie left Florida in 1984, for a position with Fairchild Space & Defense in Germantown, MD, and returned in 2000 as the President and CEO for Constellation Technology Corporation in Largo. In 2004, he retired and returned to the Melbourne area to be near his children. Charlie was an avid stamp collector and was very interested in history and genealogy. He enjoyed gardening, cars, traveling, his converse sneakers and extensive tie collection. He loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life - “Tie One on for Charlie” - will take place on Sunday, January 12 from 2-4pm at Casa Bonita, 105 N. Riverside Dr., Indialantic
