David was born on October 18, 1960 at Brevard Hospital in Melbourne. He was a fifth generation Floridian that was raised in Melbourne. He graduated Eau Gallie High in 1978. Upon graduation, interested in the plumbing trade, he started with a local plumbing company. Later, he went into business for himself; then, in 1990 worked for the Kennedy Space Center plumbing department until recently.
David was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting, fishing, and airboating were his favorite hobbies. He thought about the perfect buck every year, and loved even more when it ended up on his wall. He was an expert on the water and in the woods; he would put his favorite camo hat on backwards, enjoy the wind in his face, the beauty of the flat lake, and the Florida wildlife from his boat. He was a hard worker who did everything in life 100%. David was a great father who raised two happy, healthy children; he also instilled a great deal of morals and good ethics on everyone he was close with.
David’s intelligence and strong will was admirable and something he’ll forever be remembered for.
David was preceded in death by his father Charles W. Slaughter in 2016.
David, a loving and caring father, leaves his two children; Haley Slaughter and Jared Slaughter; mother, Carol Miller; David's father's wife, BessAnn Slaughter; sister, Diane Sicilia (Danny) and niece, Stephanie Garcia (Ricky); great-niece, Aubrielle Garcia; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends and hunting buddies.
David was a local man with many friends and family who loved and cared for him immensely. Even though David was taken too soon, he lived a fulfilling life. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love for life and a firm understanding of what was important - the simplicity of living a life with those you love.
At a later date, we will be honoring David with a celebration of life and spreading of ashes at Lake Washington, as David wanted to spend eternity among the outdoors.
