My father was patient and kind. I miss him tremendously. He was never overbearing, he would give advice and let you chose to accept it or not. His best characteristic was his subtlety.  He whispered his words of wisdom and was always there for me no matter what. It’s hard to lose someone in life that was always in your corner, who always had your back, no matter what. There are very few people in life like that. He left way to soon. I had so much more to say, and things to show him. I love you dad, you were right in so many ways. I am working on the things we discussed. I am working hard everyday to make you proud.

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we say goodbye to Uncle Denny.   While my  interactions with him were relegated to the few times we visited family in Florida or Chicago, they were nonetheless memorable.  Uncle Denny was always warm and friendly to me.  I remember a time when he took myself, sister and cousins to Lake Michigan.  I had the best time playing on the beach and collecting rocks and shells.  He came up to me and kindly suggested that I had enough already.  While I didn’t agree, he certainly had a point.   He also didn’t say anything when I lugged my giant bag of rocks into his car for the trip back to town.  Rest well, Uncle Denny.  You were loved and your life mattered❤️

Dear Den, you left so suddenly, yet looking back you were preparing me.  I will miss you forever. I have wonderful memories of our life together. You were and are my one and only love.  Peggy

Uncle Denny was  a kind  soul. When he and Peggy came to stay with  my parents, I would go over to visit with them, and Denny always wanted to hear about my family. He couldn’t believe that my daughter, Mary Clare, could live in MN!  He used to live there and totally remembered the cold weather :). He was a good friend to my father and they could talk for hours about the world and politics.  In fact, I picture him in Heaven with my father, and they are continuing those conversations! I will always remember his smile and gentle way.  RIP Denny, this world will miss you ♥️♥️

When I think of Mr. Nolan, I think of his smile, his laugh and such a kind heart! He was always welcoming in his house and enjoyed sharing funny stories. He loved to hear about Sue and my adventures. I always felt like he loved and supported us on our crazy ideas. I will always have fond memories of him and I really appreciate how much he supported me when I took off to South Dakota. Dennis Nolan, a beloved father, grandfather, and father-in-law of the family, passed away on September 12, 2023. He was a man of few words, but his heart overflowed with many countless stories that endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Nolan was the embodiment of simplicity, a reminiscent of any one episode from the television series "The Andy Griffith Show." He found joy in life's little pleasures and had a particular passion for Big 10 college football, Notre Dame football and especially, the Miami Dolphins. His unwavering dedication to these teams was a testament to his loyalty and commitment. In addition, he loved to check the weather where his kids lived and enjoyed reading the newspaper.

Family was at the center of Dennis's world, and his love for his children and grandchildren knew no bounds. Sunday family dinners were a tradition where he relished in the company of loved ones, savoring every hard-cooked meal and creating lasting memories.

As for Christmas, the Nolan's house was a magical time and place. Dennis's warm and welcoming home possessed heat from the thermostat and holiday cheer, accompanied by the timeless movie "A Christmas Story" which was playing for 24 hours straight on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. It was a tradition that brought laughter and joy to all who gathered there for the holiday.

Dennis had a special bond with me sharing moments watching "The Andy Griffith Show" and he would even allow me to watch a Duke basketball game together. One cannot forget Mr. Nolan's legendary Bloody Mary drinks, a signature treat on special occasions. 

Dennis Nolan leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and treasured memories.  In addition, you can not forget he gave me one of his incredible daughters, Monica, to continue his ways and traditions.

Some of my favourite memories with grandpa were watching Andy Griffen, Nat Geo Wild, and golf. I always would wait every year to watch Christmas Story with grandpa on Christmas. I always loved grandpa's burgers and hot dogs that he would grill for us. Grandpa every time we went to Grills would order the Mahi Mahi and know all the fish in the kids menu. I miss sitting outside with grandpa watching the birds and cars go by. He would always talk with me about football. I will never forget he would always wear his boxers instead of shorts and always would make coffee in the morning.

To the best daddy ever. From Markham Park to jetty Park to Fox Lake Park, Kiwanis Island, Merritt Island Airport, watching planes land, driving River Road to see the sights getting mangoes, Chicago flat Penny, hoakie fenokee sandwhiches, going to church with you, Sunday dinner picking my kids up in the car line talking to you about being a parent Getting  your advice , making you laugh getting updates on when Uncle Pete or Aunt Kathy will come up next. Looking forward to you telling stories and making us laugh.(making yourself laugh so hard your hands made circles) there is no such thing as fair , Do it right or don’t do it; football always on if not it’s Andy. The list is endless. Celebrating all of our milestones❤️🙏you and mom always made that and family a big deal.  You’re a wonderful dad and grandpa. I couldn’t be more thankful!! until next time you will be loved and prayed for forever. Love you Daddy! Peggy

I was so fortunate to have you for my father-in-law in so many ways.  You raised the most thoughtful and tenderhearted woman that I’ve ever met and gave me permission to marry her.  She also has a great sense of humor, which no doubt came from your great sense of humor – a great and wonderful gift all in itself.  You embraced me into your family and loved me like a son and I learned to love you as I would a father.  My children were blessed to have known you and I was so fortunate to live close enough to visit most Sunday afternoons.  I am so glad they knew you, knew your love for them and knew you cared deeply about each one of them – as you addressed them one by one each Sunday by name and asked how they were doing.

I will miss many regular things that we did together.  I always enjoyed going in the back yard with you to grill the hamburgers and talk about politics.  You were a great encouragement to me because we shared so much of the same views and saw eye to eye on many topics.  Of all of the things I will miss, I think it will be watching you tell stories with such animation and with such detail and humor.  I loved those stories and how much it made you laugh and all of those with you laugh as you delivered the perfect punch-line.

I witnessed many things in our time together and one that impressed me a lot was the love that my wife had for you and what a big part of her life you had always been.  I know a lot of who she is comes directly from you and I’m so thankful for the woman she is.  I admired that relationship and I hope to have the admiration of my children as they grown into adults.

Grandpa there aren’t words to describe how much I will miss you. I will always remember how big your smile was when we would walk through the door of y’all’s house. I will always remember how much you loved college football and wings. You were such a blessing to our family. Even though I will miss you more than ever I know you will always be watching down on us. You’ll always hold a special place in all of our hearts. I love you so much grandpa and I can’t wait to see you again one day💖

Grandpa, I love you and will miss you so much. We always had so much fun watching The Christmas Story. I loved how every night I would go to bed at your house you would say, "Don't let the bed bugs get ya." I remember how much you loved my dog Bo, even though you didn't seem to be a huge fan of dogs.😂 Bo enjoyed the bones you gave him and the love you showed him. I know you loved the Miami Dolphins. I liked watching Dr. Pol with you. I know you loved your family because you always liked to tell stories about things that happened through the years. I love you!

Grandpa, family dinner was fun when we watched Andy Griffith and you would say, “so, Emily Ann, how’s it going down at the Academy? “ I always thought it was funny that you microwaved your coffee in a Styrofoam cup , and I loved making desserts for you. it didn’t matter what it was you always said it was yummy. I could tell because you always  ate all of it. Either way, I probably couldn’t compare to the food you’re eating right now. The priest said something at your service about causing mischief in heaven and I just laughed in my mind thinking about you watching Andy Griffith instead of whatever 
 everyone  else wants to.  Some people think everyone’s going to forget them but it’s pretty impossible to forget you because grandma has 1 billion photo albums. Love you- love, Emily Ann

Grandpa, I loved how you always sat in your chair, sleeping and watching football. You always used to like to ask me about the Academy and I liked when you got cracked up when you watched Andy Griffith. ❤️😄 I liked when you came up for Halloween. Love, Matthew.

I love grandpa and his lovely hugs! He was kind and sweet with his grandpa jokes❤️ I remember when he was little, they told me about him when he and his brother Pete and their picture looked exactly like the movie Christmas story! He always loved his Christmas story about the leg lamp. I love grandpa for so many things and these are just a few things I wanted to say! Dad, I was so excited that you wanted to take the kids with me to the nut cracker in Orlando!! I was worried you wouldn’t want to go to downtown Disney. But you told me yes although it was a sarcastic” can’t wait”. And poor Laura had stomach problems and you sang jingle bells to her as she was crying in the car. And you didn’t mind the 20 minute wait for our table at the t-Rex cafe and they sat us in the kids room which was neon blue. I tried to get another table in a quieter spot but you didn’t mind at all. Such a precious memory of many many more that I will treasure in my heart until I see you again❤️❤️

I’m missing You Denny, your MN Gophers play theTar  Heels down in Chapel Hill in a couple of hours. We often watched together. 
I know you had a great Mass this morning; we all miss You so much already.

I love you so very much Grandpa! so many memories to think of but my favorites were walking down to the river on river road with you and Grandma, Sunday dinners with the family, you always made the best BBQ sauce and grilled the best food, making the best “grasshopper”  drinks, always offering me a coke from the fridge, I remember after school going to your house and Mark and I couldn’t watch TV until our homework was done before mom came to pick us up. Grandpa you were the best! I’ll be rooting for the Dolphins and the Jags just for you!  Grandpa, may you rest in peace and I will see you again someday! I love you so much!

Ahhhh Dad, today is going to be so hard to say goodbye. Especially without being able to hold your hand and get a knuckle squeeze that said without words I would be okay.  Matthew 6:21 For where thy treasure is, there is thy heart also.

An avid Dolphin fan, Notre Dame, and just watching football. Top fan of the Andy Griffith show esp Barney and Floyd the barber. He loved the dry humored comments and you knew you got him when he’d circle his hands. When he was with Uncle Pete, the laughter was constant and knowing it would always be a good time. They too loved the comic series “The Far Side” which would really get his hands circling.  Family was important to him in which he and my mom instilled in us. I will miss joking with him and calling him about the games. I love you Dad❤️

I love you dad and will miss you so very much! Mom will finally get to eat some of the galette. My favorite memory is when you told stories of your childhood and just cracked up to tears. Your hands rubbing each other in circles right to your chest and you could barely talk laughing so hard. Made everyone crack up to tears as well. Keywords I think of you are Andy Griffith, close the garage, bud priest, deviled eggs, trains, … the list goes on  and on in my heart and mind. . But praise God for the peace and hope of heaven! I will see you again for all eternity❤️.

My parents have been the Nolans’ next door neighbors for many many years, I grew up there, and I know my parents have been so grateful to be their neighbors all these years. I will never forget, when I told my mom I was pregnant for the first time, the moment I knew she was excited was when she said “Can I tell the Nolans?”
