With sadness, we announce the passing of Earl Fugleberg, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Earl left this world peacefully on October 15, 2024, at the age of 97.
Born in Minnesota to Peder and Jorgine Fugleberg, Earl was the youngest of 13 siblings, growing up in a tight-knit family where Norwegian was the primary language spoken. Immersed in the traditions and values of his heritage, he learned early on the significance of hard work, family bonds, and community. After completing the 8th grade, he devoted his youth to the family farm, cultivating a strong work ethic that would serve him throughout his life.
In 1945, Earl enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving courageously in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a Cavalry Trooper in Germany and later an Infantryman in Korea. Earl was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in combat in Korea, highlighting his bravery and unwavering dedication to his country.
After the military, Earl developed his skills as a carpenter, building a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and perseverance. He spent the majority of his life in Oklahoma City, where he found joy in life’s simple pleasures—savoring breakfast at McDonald’s, watching episodes of Gunsmoke, listening to music, reading history books, and using his construction skills on projects around the house. Earl also enjoyed driving his vehicle around town, a pleasure he continued to experience until his mid-90s. Above all, he was devoted to his family, relishing the time spent with his wife in his later years.
Earl is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Fugleberg, and his four children: Craig, Roxana, Keefe, and Ryan Fugleberg, along with their families. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry his legacy forward.
A memorial service will be held at St John the Evangelist Grotto in Viera, FL on Monday, November 4, 2024, from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. Immediately following the service, Earl will be laid to rest with military honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a veteran’s charity of your choice in his honor.
Rest in peace, Earl. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
