It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frank Abreu (81) on Tuesday, February 24th at his home in Titusville, Florida. He died peacefully after a long-term battle with congestive heart failure, surrounded by family.
Frank was born on November 22, 1944 in Havana, Cuba to Francisco and Graciela Abreu where he enjoyed a happy childhood filled with extended family gatherings and days at Varadero Beach. As a teenager, Frank traveled to the United States on a student visa to live with his sister Carmen in Miami, where he attended and later graduated from Miami Jackson High School.
Soon after, he attended the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. It is there where he met his beloved wife, Lois, of almost 40 years while she was on vacation. The following summer, they were married at a large ceremony in New York City on July 23rd. Frank and Lois began their life together as a young couple with two children (Brian and Robin), settling in Satellite Beach. In his early career, he worked for Harris Corporation and later held various executive positions for a multitude of defense contractors and telecommunication companies before retiring at age 62. He also obtained his GC license and built several new construction homes in the Satellite Beach area for a period of years.
However, Frank’s greatest passion in life was boating, whether he was sailing the Indian River with Lois and the kids or traveling to the Abaco Islands with his best friends. He was a longtime member of the Eau Gallie Yacht Club and enjoyed many good times and great friendships there. In 1998, Lois and Frank moved to Orlando to be closer to their grandchildren and often took them to the theme parks and on great adventures, until her passing in 2003.
In 2006, Frank was blessed to marry Clara (Breemen) Abreu of Titusville, after meeting at his soon-to-be stepdaughter’s wedding. He moved to Titusville where he continued boating, traveling and meeting with his new friends in the gun club, especially his dear friend, Bob Dole. Frank enjoyed spending time on his boat at the Titusville Marina and many good years going to the beach, doing home projects and spending loving days with Clara and family.
Frank is preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Abreu and his parents, Francisco and Graciela Abreu. He is survived by his second wife, Clara Abreu, daughter Robin (Danny) Silvea, son Brian (Jolie) Abreu, sister Carmen Toro, his grandsons Nate, Jayce, Logan, granddaughter Bella, his stepchildren Andrea (Tim), Michael, Shane, and step grandsons, David, Mason, Damon, Liam and Corbin.
