

Born in Beulaville, North Carolina, on June 3rd, 1937, James was the son of John D. Sholar and Reba Jackson. Raised with a strong sense of duty, discipline and service, he carried those values with him throughout his life.
James served honorably in the United States Air Force for eight years, achieving the rank of Service Airman E4. During his military service, he was recognized with multiple medals and commendations, reflecting his professionalism and steadfast commitment to his country.
After completing his service, James embarked on a remarkable 36-year career with Rockwell, later United Space Alliance, where he played a meaningful role in supporting the U.S. space program. He retired in 1997 and went to enjoy 25 years of retirement in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, embracing the peace and simplicity of life abroad.
A man of quiet faith and deep convictions, James was a lifelong Presbyterian. He was also a proud Shriner and an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, continuing to give back to others and advocate for his fellow veterans.
James is survived by his daughter, Rose Miller of Cocoa Beach, Florida; his brother, Jack C. Sholar of Wilson, North Carolina; and his sister Judith A. Chadwick of Wilmington, North Carolina. He will be fondly remembered for his steady presence, generous spirit, and unshakeable character. His legacy of service, strength, and love endures in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
