

Born October 27, 1921 in Katchie, Louisiana, James was raised in a small sawmill town, Seiper, LA with his five siblings. He joined the Navy at the age of 19, served on various ships, and was a WWII survivor of Pearl Harbor. He retired as a CWIII with honors after a 20 year service. James married the love of his life, Norma Jean Asbe in 1944. He worked as a Safety Manager at the Kennedy Space Center during the height of the space program, and retired in 1979. He enjoyed his retirement by fishing, golfing, and spending time with friends and family. He was actively involved in his church and volunteered for many years with Habitat for Humanity.
James is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Norma Jean Asbe; one daughter, Wendy Sweat; two sons, James C. Sweat Jr. (Susan) and Gary Sweat (Linda); two grandsons, Robert (James & Susan) and Zackery (Gary & Linda ); one granddaughter, Alecia (James & Susan); great-grandson Cyrus (Alecia).
Compassionate, humorous, and a good listener, Jim never met a stranger. He was always lending a helping hand, and was loved, and will be missed by all. It’s tea time in heaven.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 3:00pm in the Ascension Lutheran Church, 1053 Pinetree Drive, Indian Harbour Beach, FL, a burial with military honors at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Hospice of Health First (HFhospice.org) and Ascension Lutheran Church of Indian Harbour Beach, FL.
