

She was born on June 14, 1923. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Montclair State College in NJ. In 1946 she married Russell Dougherty.
Jean has been pre-deceased by her mother; Ella Leming; her father; Carl Ellenberger; and her spouse; LTC Russell Dougherty, USAF, who passed away in 2001. Jean is survived by a sister-in-law; Edith Oberer of NJ, a niece; Edith Zimmerman of SC, and three nephews; Ernest Oberer and John Oberer both of NJ, and Carl Oberer of CA.
Her spouse Russell joined the Air Force after their wedding taking the couple to many foreign places. He went to Thailand, they both went Chanute Airforce Base in Illinois, he to the the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, and both to England. In retirement, they settled in Cocoa Beach for a time, finally moving to the Indian River Colony Club (IRCC) in Melbourne, FL. Jean was often heard saying that Doc picked out the house because it had a three car garage and he did not care if there was a tent behind it!
Jean was an avid and competent Mah Jongg player for many, many, years. She played Military Wives Rules twice a week until the age of 90. She was also well known for her beautiful voice. She sang in the IRCC Choral Group until she was 90. In high school, she was told she had perfect pitch. She loved cats, auto racing, and football. She was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and could often be found watching NASCAR races.
The arrangements are for Tuesday, May 31, 2016, viewing from 10am-12pm, at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, Rockledge, FL. Interment will follow immediately in Florida Memorial Gardens.
